How Freelancers Can Easily Get a Credit Card and Checkbook

Most freelancers have the difficulty of getting a credit card and checkbook unless,

  • You have continuously deposited and maintained an amount 50,000-100,000 Php 6 months onwards
  • There are frequent transactions (more deposit than withdraw)
  • If you can present an ITR to get a credit card
  • Have a business to get a checkbook

So how can a freelancer and virtual assistant get these two: credit card and a checkbook?

If you’re in Cebu then you’re lucky.

RCBC’s CASA Promo

RCBC has a recent promo “CASA” which means Checkbook and Savings.

The requirements are only;

  • Minimum of 10,000 Php to deposit
  • Valid Id’s such as (Passport, UMID, SSS, Drivers License), supporting ID’s (Tin, NBI and Police Clearance)
  • Proof of billing

You can also get a credit card (card limit of 5,000 Php) from the CASA promo. If in case you want to increase the card limit, then provide proof of salary. The proof of salary can be Paypal or recent COE from Upwork. If you have multiple clients, then provide recent salary. By the way, the credit card is not a secured card, so you’re money won’t be frozen like those secured cards.

Note: Present the ones that have a higher salary (to have a higher probability of getting one no questions asked) then just mention that you have other clients and you just showed one or a few. I think you get what I mean about this.

Here’s what I presented to RCBC from PayPal (minus the blocking of important information like shown below)

Here’s what I presented from Upwork COE (minus the blocking of important information like shown below)

RCBC’s Dragon Peso Savings

I chose this one and the other one Dragon Pay (All in one, Checkbook and Passbook) which I’ll discuss after this.

Dragon Pay Savings lets you have a Debit Card (savings), Passbook, Credit card and earn interest from your savings (minimum of 25,000 Php).

If you chose this one, you’ll get a higher chance of getting your credit card at a higher card limit.

What I like about the credit card is if in case you’ll buy an item that is not an installment, you can just call customer service and ask for a 3-month installment for the payment at 0% interest. If you choose 6 months onwards then there’s an interest, maybe 1%, same with other banks.

For the Debit Card, you can choose to have your name on the card for free but you’ll get it after a few days. The other one is with no name and you can get it right away. If you plan later on to have a name on the card then you’ll be charged 150 Php, I just didn’t add mine for security purposes since few people know my full name.

Here are the images for the Debit Mastercard, Passbook, and the recept of Pin change. I just added this one for you to know that I really have it and what I’m saying is true.

RCBC Dragon Savings Passbook
RCBC Pin Change

RCBC Dragon (All in one)

You can get a Checkbook and a passbook for this one at a minimum of 25,000 Php.

The good thing about this is you can upgrade this account to their Hexagon account with lot’s of benefits such as;

  • Priority or VIP when you’re in the bank
  • Free of the fees such as replenishing your checks, fees when withdrawing from other banks, and more
  • A higher limit of credit card

For the Hexagon account, the minimum you need to deposit is 100,000 Php.

How Many Days You’ll get your Credit Card?

The lady teller told me and the manager that you’ll get it after a few weeks (less than a month, like 2-3 weeks). It will be delivered to your address.

What is the Possibility of Getting a Credit Card?

The lady teller told me and the manager that It’s highly impossible you won’t get approved in the Manila office since I opened a Dragon Savings with minimum 25,000 Php. I was asking this one in case if I won’t be approved maybe I’ll get the 5,000 Php card limit but they have reassured me on this one.

Do You Have the Chance of Getting a Credit Card and Checkbook?

Yes, If you’re in Cebu just go to their branch located at M. C. Briones St, Gupco, Mandaue City, 6014 Cebu and find Mrs. Nannette Arca Business Center Manager and tell her you were referred by Dale Basilla working as an SEO Specialist. She already knows and she will entertain you.

Disclaimer: I’m not working with RCBC or collaborating with them. I just want to help other freelancers like me who have a hard time getting a credit card and a checkbook.

Why the Specified Bank Branches?

The reason is for you to have a higher probability of getting one by mentioning my name. Different branches may have different treatment especially towards freelancers and virtual assistant and I know the insults and skepticism firsthand. If you think it’s worth it to visit the branch and get a credit card and checkbook hassle-free then go ahead.

Why Get a Credit Card and Checkbook Now while You Can just Wait?

Having a Credit Card and Checkbook opens a lot of doors especially to freelancers when you plan to invest such as Mandani Bay condo, buy Christmas presents, and more. Waiting is good but if you have the capacity now, why not make use of this chance to earn more money? that’s what I did.
